Each Pilardi board brings together the pleasure of play, decorative presence, and artisanal craftsmanship in a reversible piece made to be played, displayed, and kept. Depending on the model, each creation may feature fine marquetry, hand-painted miniature details, Tazhib-inspired motifs, and protective finishes applied with care.

Two games. One story.

According to Persian tradition, chess arrived at the Persian court as a challenge from India. Bozorgmehr understood the game and devised another in reply: Nard, the ancestor of modern backgammon.

Two games, two ways of confronting uncertainty: chess through calculation, Nard through calculation and chance.

Pilardi’s reversible boards continue that story: chess on one side, backgammon on the other. Mind and fate brought together in a single object.

Each board requires around five weeks of artisanal work, combining marquetry, hand-painted miniature work, assembly and carefully applied finishes. Produced in very limited quantities, every board is conceived both as a game and as a collectible object.
