Design & Composition

Created in small batches for Pilardi, each board is assembled from hundreds of hand-cut geometric elements arranged in symmetrical patterns inspired by classical marquetry traditions. The backgammon side features intricate shamseh and rosette motifs, while the reverse presents a clean chessboard composition framed with turquoise accents. The proportions are designed for regular play while maintaining a strong visual presence.

Craftsmanship

Approximately five weeks of meticulous work are required to complete each handcrafted backgammon chess set. The marquetry structure is enhanced with miniature hand-painting inspired by historical equestrian scenes, then sealed beneath a crystal-clear resin finish for depth and durability. Slight variations in tone, alignment, and surface texture are natural results of the handmade process and serve as signatures of the artisan’s hand.
