Part of the Pilardi collector selection, this chess and backgammon set highlights the elegance of Tazhib-inspired painting on wood. Traditionally associated with ornamental illumination, this decorative language is reinterpreted here through a playable board game format.

The chess side features a richly painted frame around the playing surface, combining indigo, turquoise, gold-toned accents, and small geometric details. The backgammon side reveals a calmer composition, with two large ornamental medallions placed at the heart of the board.

Designed as both a functional luxury board game and a decorative collector’s object, this piece is made to bring visual presence to a living room, library, office, or games room.

Craftsmanship

The board is decorated by hand with Tazhib-inspired floral and geometric motifs. The painted details are applied across both the chess and backgammon surfaces, creating a balance between ornament, symmetry, and playability.

Small Khatam accents appear in selected areas of the board, adding discreet geometric detail without dominating the painted composition. The main character of this piece remains its indigo and turquoise hand-painted ornament.
