Produced in small batches exclusively for Pilardi, each board is assembled from hundreds of hand-cut geometric elements arranged in symmetrical patterns inspired by classical Khatam artistry.

The backgammon side features detailed shamseh and rosette motifs, while the reverse presents a clean, balanced chessboard framed with turquoise accents. Designed for regular use, it remains visually striking enough to stand as a decorative object even when not in play.

Craftsmanship

Each panel of this handcrafted backgammon chess set is built using the Khatam Kari technique — a meticulous marquetry process in which tiny pieces of wood, brass, and natural bone are cut, aligned, and pressed together to form repeating star patterns. The surface is then hand-finished, polished, and sealed for long-term durability.
