Part of the Pilardi collector selection, this chess and backgammon set brings together two decorative traditions: the precision of Khatam marquetry and the delicacy of Tazhib-inspired painting.

The chess side features a structured playing surface framed by turquoise ornamental motifs and geometric detail. The backgammon side reveals a more decorative composition, with painted medallions, pointed fields, and finely worked accents that give the board depth and rhythm.

Because it combines both painted ornament and marquetry detail, this edition sits among the more elaborate pieces in the Pilardi board collection.

Craftsmanship

The board is made with a combination of hand-applied Tazhib-style painting and Khatam marquetry accents. The painted turquoise motifs bring colour, movement, and visual softness, while the geometric inlay details add texture, precision, and architectural structure.

The Khatam accents are made from wood, bone, and brass, assembled into fine geometric patterns. This material contrast gives the board both ornamental richness and a tactile sense of craftsmanship.

The reversible format offers two playable surfaces: a chess board on one side and a backgammon board on the other. A clear protective resin finish enhances the luminosity of the painted and inlaid details while helping protect the surface over time.
